The combined use of metals and plastics allows to generate a product with a broad spectrum of desired properties. By selecting the appropriate materials, many mechanical characteristics can be influenced and optimized: weight, bending stiffness, formability and temperature resistance are some of the tunable parameters.
4a manufacturing offers 10 years of experience in the design and production of thin sandwich materials, offered by the trademark CIMERA®. The goal of CIMERA® is to reduce the weight of thin components (0.5 - 3 mm) made of single materials like steel, aluminium, GFRP or CFRP, by replacing them with a cost efficient sandwich design.
An important factor for creating a high performance sandwich material is the choice of the right core layer. 4a manufacturing offers very thin hard foam sheets as core layers, which are called MILLIFOAM™. These foam sheets are available in different thicknesses (0.5-3.0mm) and are obtained from commercially available polymer grades (PET, PVC, PPE, PMI, PESU,…). With a suitable selection of MILLIFOAM™ core materials and a wide range of experience in different production processes, it is possible to offer the best material for the customers` requirements.
